Sports Nigeria's Ezekiel Bassey Signs for Barcelona

Enyimba FC forward Ezekiel Bassey has signed a loan deal with Spanish giants Barcelona. 
The loan deal will last until the end of the season. 

"FC Barcelona and Enyimba Football Club have reached an agreement for the transfer until the end of season of the player Ezekiel Joseph Bassey for Barça B.

Jos Residents Reject Polio Immunisation, Say They Want Food Instead

The ongoing polio immunization in the country has been rejected by some communities in Jos North Local Government of Plateau State, saying vaccines should be replaced with food as they are hungry 

This was disclosed by Mrs Hannatu Davat, the Local Immunization Officer, who said they have refused to participate in the on-going immunization exercise against polio.

Davat said, “The communities have shunned entreaties by the immunization officers; they say the vaccine should be replaced with food.

Bora Colley: Jammeh's Top Army General Arrested

West African forces have arrested the head of an elite commando unit of the Gambian army, General Bora Colley, force commander Francois Ndiaye said. Bora Colley was arrested in neighbouring Senegal.
Ndiaye also mentioned the arrest of four members of Jammeh’s bodyguards who had accompanied him into exile but tried to return to The Gambia.

Sally Yates was named deputy attorney general by then-President Barack Obama in 2015. Mr Trump asked her to stay on as acting head of the Justice Department. Hours after Ms Yates said the executive order did not appear to be lawful, President Donald Trump replaced her.

Reported Explosions In Maiduguri, Borno State


There has been a reported case of explosions at Dalori Quarters in Maiduguri, Borno state. This was disclosed in a terse text message by the Head of Information, National Emergency Management Agency NEMA in Abuja, Sani Datti to a media out fit. 

“Our Search and Rescue officers are already on their way to the scene; details later”, he said.

Trump Fires Acting AG After She Tells Justice Department Not To Defend Travel Ban


President Donald Trump fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates Monday night for "refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States," the White House said.
"(Yates) has betrayed the Department of Justice," the White House statement said.

Dana Boente, US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, the White House said, and was sworn in at 9 p.m. ET, per an administration official. A few hours later, Boente issued a statement rescinding Yates' order, instructing DOJ lawyers to "defend the lawful orders of our President."

Riot As Hausa Trader Kills Driver Over N30


There was chaos on Monday on Mojeed Sanni Street, in the Igando area of Lagos State, after a 40-year-old Hausa trader, Ibrahim Adamu, allegedly killed a bus driver, Lekan Adeleke.

Some residents and friends of the victim made a bonfire on the road as they chased away Hausa traders in the community, threatening to avenge the killing.

The men were on the rampage when policemen from the Igando division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Olatunji Ajimuda, stormed the area.

Reacting, Google said it has created a crisis fund that could raise up to $4 million for four immigrant rights organizations.

President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, has declared that he is not against the emergence of the new mega party so long as it pushes Nigeria’s economy forward.




He made the declaration during an interview programme on Channels Television.

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Monday said they were pushing to extradite Nigerian lawmaker, Buruji Kashamu to the United States on drugs.


Buruji Kashamu has been wanted for years in connection with a heroin smuggling operation but maintains he is a victim of mistaken identity.

The senator, who represents Ogun state in the upper chamber of parliament, claims his dead brother whom he reportedly resembles ran the international drug ring in the 1990s.

An 18-month-old baby was left fighting for his life after a woman allegedly told her partner to shoot him in the head with an air gun "to shut him up".

The youngster was left with blood "gushing" from his head after being shot and kept passing in and out of consciousness, a court heard.

Emma Horseman, 24, stands accused of telling partner Jordan Walters to shoot the toddler after asking the boy's mum: "How do you cope with them crying all the time?"

Police Arrests Biafra Times Publisher, 9 Others For Alleged Sedition


The police in Lagos on Monday said they had arrested the publisher of Biafra Times and nine others for allegedly publishing and circulating seditious and malicious publication. Parading the 10 suspects, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, said 515 copies of the offending newspaper were recovered during a raid on the printing press in Shomolu, Lagos.

“The printing press has been shut and the environment is being monitored.

 “This is an offence punishable under the Criminal Law of Lagos State,” Owoseni said. He added that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as detectives finished interrogating them.
