Hannah James, whose family is from Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire was thrown in a jail cell in Bahrain a month ago and was said to be surviving on three meals of rice and water a day.
Alhaddar, 30, has since admitted hitting his wife - but claimed he was acting in self-defence and that he too had suffered injuries. Last night her mother, Shelley, confirmed Ms James had been released from jail but was still not allowed to leave the country. She had earlier released pictures showing injuries the family said had been inflicted by Alhaddar.
Shelley had earlier written in an online petition that Bahrain 'is a law unto themselves' and that her daughter was 'suffering being in prison'.
A Crowdfunding page has been set up in a bid to raise £2,500 to bring her home.
Britain's Foreign Office said in a statement: 'We are providing support to a British woman following her arrest in Bahrain. We remain in contact with both her family and with Bahraini authorities.'
