Chilling Footage Captures Moment Rapist Walked Beside Victim Before Carrying Her Off As She She Made To Get Taxi Home After A Night Out

The Police in Leeds have released this disturbing footage of a young woman being carried by her rapist to the scene of the brutal attack as she tried to get a taxi home after a night out.

The CCTV clips show the unidentified man walking around Leeds city centre shortly before he comes across the 24-year-old woman at around 5am on Friday, August 14th, 2015.

The victim was said to be on her way to get a taxi home after a night out when she was approached by the man in the Kirkgate area of the city. He spoke to her and walked alongside her down Briggate shopping street before they reached Dortmund Sqaure, where he picked her up in his arms and carried her to the scene of the attack on Mark Lane. The man was described as black, aged 30 to 40, tall and with a shaved head. He was wearing a long black overcoat and black trousers.

Head of Crime for Leeds District, Detective Superintendent Pat Twiggs said:
"The footage of the victim being carried off by this man clearly makes for disturbing viewing. We gave very careful consideration to releasing it and secured the consent of the victim who has been left understandably traumatised by what this man did to her.
"I think the CCTV gives a really stark illustration of the very serious nature of this offence and we hope it will focus the public's minds on helping us to identify and trace the man responsible.'

"We don't know if he assaulted her prior to picking her up.
We don't have that on CCTV and the victim cannot be sure.
There has obviously been some force during the attack but there was also not a lot of resistance from the victim.'
In line with the investigation, detectives have carried out an extensive trawl of CCTV cameras in Leeds city centre and have identified the suspect in several areas.

He is seen loitering in a car park at the rear of the Malmaison hotel in Swinegate at about 4.40am. He is also seen approaching a woman on Swinegate at 4.45am and he can be seen walking along Briggate, before he finally picked his victim.

Detective Twiggs added:
"The other footage we have released shows this man walking around Leeds city centre and we strongly believe he was looking for someone to attack before he focused on the victim.

"He is seen approaching a woman in Swinegate at about 4.45am. The footage is not completely clear but it shows a white woman wearing a skirt. I am appealing for that woman to contact us."
Detective Twiggs said the victim is -
"doing okay. Physically she is fine but mentally and emotionally she is trying to come to terms with the incident. She is quite angry with herself for allowing this to happen but it's wrong that she should feel that way. It's not her fault."
Following the attack, the victim was said to have called for an ambulance which then met her a short distance away from where she was violated.
