Russian diplomat shoots and kills car jacker in Rio

A man reported to be a Russian diplomat shot and killed a man attempting to rob him on Rio de Janeiro's main thoroughfare moments after the Olympic torch passed by. RIO DE JANEIRO, A man reported to be a Russian diplomat shot and killed a man attempting to car jack him Thursday in Rio de Janiero, according to Brazilian state run news agency Agencia Brasil.
Early reports said the diplomat fought with the robber and moments later was able to wrestle away the mugger's gun and shot him, moments after the Olympic torch relay went by.
The shooting took place in the early afternoon on the city's main thoroughfare, Avenida das Americas, a few minutes after the torch relay had run down the street.
But reports conflict over the man's identity, with the Russian news agency Tass denying any of their diplomats had been involved, and some reports saying the man was Brazilian lawyer Marcos Cesar Feres Braga.
The Globo newspaper reported the man was in his car with his wife and daughter, stuck in traffic, when two men on motorcycles pulled up. One of the men allegedly smashed the window and demanded he hand over his watch. The man grabbed the robber pulled him into the car and shot him with the robber's gun. The other motorcyclist then fled the scene.
