Despite financial crisis, Namibian president Hage Geingob increases his salary


Namibian president Hage Geingob last week approved salary increases of 6% for himself and fellow politicians, effective from this month. In 2015, the Public Office-Bearers Remuneration and Benefits Commission (POBC) recommended the increases in salary for politicians but Geingob did not approve them because of the economic situation.
On Friday, the Presidency gazetted the salary increases, detailing how much the politicians will earn.

A Nigerian national who trafficked a 15-year-old girl, forcing her into prostitution, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in South Africa.
Eke Ugochukwe‚ 30‚ was sentenced in the South Gauteng High Court on Monday morning after he was convicted of sexually exploiting the 15-year-old girl.
Delivering judgment, Judge Majake Mabasele of the Gauteng High Court said what the suspect did to the girl was cruel.

British police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have been given additional funds to continue their search for the girl who vanished a decade ago.The UK Home Office gave police $103,000 ( £85,000) to extend the search for six more months between April and September 2017. Madeleine was a few weeks to her fourth birthday when she went missing from her family's holiday apartment on May 3, 2007, in the Portuguese town of Praia da Luz.
