Senator Adeola To Hameed Ali - Appear Before Senate In Customs Uniform Or Resign

Senator Solomon Adeola has called on Hammed Ali, Comptroller-General of Customs, to resign if he won't wear uniforms while appearing before the Nigerian Senate.  

In a statement by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, Senator Adeola said that the Senate resolution summoning Ali to appear in Custom Service uniform and rank was aimed at protecting the organization’s integrity.

The statement reads, “We have had a Major General, Haladu Hanniya as head of FRSC wearing the agency’s uniform as well as a Major Danjuma Maigari wearing even the KAI uniform in Lagos State, all in a bid to promote agencies they lead.

“This is not the Abacha military era when a Sole Administrator was appointed to head the Nigerian Customs.”

The Bauchi State government has ordered the closure of one of its schools after the discovery of secretly arranged marriages among its students. 

The order for the closure was contained in a statement issued by Yakubu Adamu, the Special Assistant on Communication to the state Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Education, Engineer Nuhu Gidado.

“I directed the immediate closure of the school on Friday, 10th March 2017 after being notified about the issue,” Gidado said, adding that a committee comprising all directors in the state Ministry of Education, the school authority, teachers as well as the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school had been constituted to investigate the matter."

Acclaimed Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, over the weekend found herself at the centre of a controversy over gender identity after the comments she made about transgender women during an interview with the U.K Channels 4 while promoting her new book, Dear Ijeawele.
"When people talk about, 'Are trans women women?' my feeling is trans women are trans women" the author said.
Taking to her official Facebook page earlier today, Ms Adichie said her intention was a good one and while we can oppose violence against trans women, difference should also be acknowledged. Read after the cut..

Real Madrid break 52yr record as they become the first team to score in 48 consecutive games


Real Madrid came from behind to beat Real Betis 2-1 at home thanks to goals from C. Ronaldo and the ever reliable Sergio Ramos. In the process, the reigning European champions became the first team ever to score in 48 consecutive games.

The record was previously held by Portuguese club, Benfica when they managed 47 consecutive goal-scoring games between December 1963 and January 1965.

Pres Buhari to resume work today, writes National Assembly

President Buhari who returned from his UK medical vacation last Friday, will resume work today March 13th. According to Femi Adesina, Buhari will today transmit a letter to the Senate and House of Reps members, officially informing them of his return and his resumption of duties as President.

Meanwhile there are speculations that a major cabinet reshuffle is expected to occur this week. although the presidency is yet to confirm this.
