Premium Times Publisher, Staff Released, To Report Back This Morning


The Publisher of Premium Times newspaper Dapo Olorunyomi and Judicial reporter Evelyn Okakwu have been released by the police in Abuja. They were released last night, but a lot of people are not celebrating their release, because they have been asked to report back to the station this morning by 8:00am.

Sources are now claiming they will be likely arraigned this morning which will therefore make their ‘detention’ legal, since there will be processing to bail, and that is if they get one this morning. 

Motorcyclist Abducts 3-Year Old Twins, But Was Caught In The Process


A commercial motorcyclist caused panic on Alubarika Street, in the Bariga area of Lagos State after he fled with three-year-old twin brothers, Joseph and Joel Osinaike.

Punch Metro gathered that the kids’ mother, who lives in the area, had brought them to a bus stop beside a First Bank branch in the community to get a motorcycle that would take them to school.

After a few minutes wait at the bus stop, the okada (motorcycle) rider, who was identified as Awaliu Yunusa, stopped to pick the school kids and their mother.

Senegalese Troops Enter Gambia -Reports


Senegal announced that its troops entered Gambia on Thursday in a bid to force the West African country’s longtime ruler to step down following an election loss, hours after the successor chosen by voters last month took the oath of office from exile in the Senegalese capital.

“We have entered Gambia,” Senegalese army Col. Abdou Ndiaye wrote in a text message to the Reuters news agency. There were no other immediate details of the reported incursion. Videos of camouflaged Senegalese tanks and Humvees driving toward the Gambian border circulated on social media.

Trump arrives in Washington with a wave and a salute

WASHINGTON — Ready for his big moment, Donald Trump swept into Washington on a military jet Thursday and quickly set to building better ties to the Republican Congress as he kicked off three days of inaugural festivities. Washington braced for an onslaught of crowds and demonstrators — with all the attendant hoopla and hand-wringing.
Trump was quickly taking on more of the trappings of the presidency, giving a salute to the Air Force officer who welcomed him as he stepped off the jet with wife Melania at Joint Base Andrews just outside Washington.

South Africa’s most wanted fugitive surrenders to police

South Africa’s most wanted fugitive, Mark Scott-Crossley on Wednesday was arrested after handing himself over to the police in Pretoria. According to Buzz SA, Scott-Crossley escaped after the police declared him wanted in connection with the attempted murder of one Silence Mabunda. 
The 37-year-old victim, an employee at the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre was allegedly assaulted by the suspect at a shop in Hoedspruit while he was buying airtime there in December 2016. The suspect grabbed and smashed his cellphone, before driving over him in an apparent racist attack.
