Remember the Nigerian man who proposed to his white girlfriend on top of Olumo Rock? Here is their story!

Few weeks ago, a Nigerian man proposed to his girlfriend ontop Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The photos quickly went viral. 

The couple was interviewed by BYU-Idaho Scroll, student news source of Brigham Young University, Idaho, U.S. where they are both studying. When Shila Tietjen, a sophomore studying Spanish education decided to visit Nigeria, a proposal was the last thing she expected.

Shila said she and her boyfriend, Olu Egunjobi, also a sophomore studying accounting, began dating in February after they drove to a party together. 

Egunjobi said the way they met was a long story and that it was not planned at all.

After dating for a period of time, Egunjobi said he wanted to take her to his hometown in Nigeria.

While in Nigeria, on Sept. 13, 2016, on Tietjen’s birthday, Egunjobi said he surprised her by asking her on Olumo Rock to marry him after they had toured the Kings Palace and the first church in Nigeria.

"I was totally surprised," Tietjen said. "I had no idea it would happen that day. Before we left, I thought he would propose to me on my birthday because he likes to do exciting and big things, but then while we were there, I totally forgot. I even forgot it was my birthday when I woke up."

Tietjen said she was really excited to go to Nigeria to meet his family and that they showed so much love for her.

Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigeria Football Federation has warned that lack of finance could scupper Nigeria's chances of making it to the Russia 2018 World Cup.

According to Pinnick, who appeared on Tuesday before the Senate committee on Sports, the NFF is yet to pay for hotel fees for 70 rooms they'v secured at Protea hotel, Zambia and other expenses like airline fees might make them not to honour their first 2018 World cup qualifier match against the Chipolopolo of Zambia on Sunday.

Pinnick said: 'Nigeria was paired with former African Cup winner Zambia, Algeria,  and Cameroon that won the Nations cup four times and they've been to the World Cup seven times.'

Oyegun Finally Replies Tinubu, Says You Can’t Remove Me From The Pages Of Newspapers

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Oyegun, has reacted to the call by a former Lagos governor and a leader of the party, Ahmed Tinubu, that he should resign.

Mr. Oyegun said the national chairman of a party cannot be removed on the pages of newspapers.

He said Mr. Tinubu’s letter accusing him of highhandedness and being a mole in the party, was a “bit too harsh”, but said the two politicians merely had a “difference of opinion”.

Mr. Tinubu came down hard on Mr. Oyegun in a lengthy statement last week, accusing the party chairman of betrayal and fraud.

“Evidently, some errant members believe promises and vows are mere words to be easily spoken and more easily broken.

“Chairman John Oyegun has breached these good pledges in a most overt and brazen display,” Mr. Tinubu said. “In doing so, Oyegun has dealt a heavy blow to the very party he professes to lead. It is an awful parent who suffocates his own child for the sake of a few naira.”

Mr. Oyegun responded on Tuesday at the presidential villa after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The method of getting rid of a national chairman if that is what I will call it, are spelt out in the constitution. They don’t take place on the pages of newspapers,” Mr. Oyegun told journalists.

He however insisted that there was no rift with Mr. Tinubu.

“We have differences of opinion, differences of perception and I think that is normal. Yes, I agree that the nature of the statement was a bit harsh,” he said.

Asked whether the party would reverse its decision on the Ondo election primaries, since it was causing crisis in the party, Mr. Oyegun said, “It is only INEC that can make U-turn on Ondo”.

Producer Yomi Fabiyi cries out on behalf of Baba Suwe, says NDLEA's alleged torture damaged the comic actor's health

In October 2011, veteran comic actor, Babatunde Omidina, aka Baba Suwe, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on the suspicion of ingestion of illicit drugs. An Ikeja High Court ordered the agency to pay the sum of N25 million as damages for unlawfully detaining him and also tender a public apology to him. None of this ever happened and in 2013, a Court of Appeal sitting in Igbosere, Lagos, quashed the judgement of the high court, saying there was no evidence to attract such.

n a new development, Producer and Director, Yomi Fabiyi, is alleging that a 'long pipe' was inserted through the actor's anus while in detention back in 2011 and the torture done on him by NDLEA is damaging his health at an alarming rate.

Buhari Puts Up Two Presidential Jets For Sale

The federal government has advertised the sale of two aircraft in the presidential fleet, in an apparent move to cut down the size of the fleet.

The fleet is believed to hold as much as 10 airplanes, and Mr. Buhari has been criticised for maintaining the large fleet.

Garba Shehu, the president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, hinted in September that the number of aircraft in the fleet would be reduced.

The Office of the National Security Adviser advertised the sale of two airplanes on Tuesday.

The advert, published on page 35 of Tuesday’s edition of ThisDay Newspaper, said the aircraft up for sale were Falcon 7x and Hawker 4000.

The advertorial detailed the specification of the planes as well as their performance levels, indicating that they were in pretty good condition.

Interested buyers are advised to inspect the Falcon at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

On the other hand, the Hawker 4000 can only be inspected at Cessna Zurich Citation Service Centre, Zurich, Switzerland.

The bids are to be quoted in dollars, the notice said.

“This is correct,” Mr. Shehu said. “The federal government has put up an advert for the sale of some of the aircraft on the presidential fleet.”

Niger Delta: Military will abide with the FG's ongoing negotiation effort with militants

In a statement released by the Defense Headquarters, the authorities have re-emphasized that the military will abide with the ongoing negotiation effort of the Federal Government with militants in order to have peaceful settlement of the Niger Delta problem.

However, while trying to achieve this feat, the military has warned that it would not tolerate "any individual or group taking its good gesture of adherence to ceasefire and peaceful disposition to the impasse for granted."

Hence, they will respond proportionately to any armed attacks against its location in a decisive but professional manner, in line with its constitutional mandate of defending innocent citizens as well as national critical infrastructure.

The Military states that the Armed Forces has the capacity to defend itself and warns various belligerent groups in either the Niger Delta or any other part of the nation to desist from any act capable of jeopardizing peace and security of Nigeria or they will regret the consequences of their actions.

102-Year-Old Gets Arrested, Fulfilling One Zany Bucket List Wish

Edie Simms, a 102-year-old Missouri woman, was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police cruiser Friday as officers helped her fulfill an unusual bucket list wish: getting arrested.

Simms was seen being cheerfully escorted to St. Louis’ Five Star Senior Center with accompanying St. Louis police officers that said they couldn’t be happier to help, KPLR reported.

“We love it and we get more out of it than the seniors do,” St. Louis Police Sgt. John McLaughlin told the station.

Asked if she enjoyed her ride, Simms answered: “Oh yes, handcuffs and all.”

The unusual treat was one that followed several years of Simms creating and donating handmade items to the residential center’s members, the center’s executive director, Michael Howard, told The Huffington Post Monday.
