Police, DSS call for postponement of Edo election



The Nigerian Police Force and th Department of State Security DSS, have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the Saturday September 10th governorship election in Edo state for security reasons. The security agencies made the call at a joint press briefing at the DSS Headquarters in Abuja today September 7th.

The Council of state meeting took place at the state House Abuja today. It was presided over by President Buhari and had in attendance were former president Goodluck Jonathan, former interim president Ernest Shonekan and former military leader Abdulsalami Abubakar. Also in attendance were some state governors and former Chief Justices of the Federation.

Election: Police To Deploy Extra 25,000 Personnel, Helicopters, Gun Boats To Edo


The acting Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has approved the deployment of additional 25,000 policemen for Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

The policemen are to be drawn from the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter Terrorism Units (CTU), the Anti bomb Squad (EOD), the Marine Police, Conventional policemen, the Armament Units, including personnel from Force criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (FCIID), Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) and the Sniffer Dog Section.
