Adama Barrow Holds Meeting With Ex- President Jammeh's Ministers

Gambia’s President Adama Barrow met with former ministers of the exiled former President Yahya Jammeh at his Kairaba office on Wednesday.

Majority of the ministers that met with Barrow resigned just days before Jammeh’s mandate elapsed, including former VP Isatou Njie-Saidy.

Gambian SMBC News reported that Njie-Saidy led the delegation, which included senior Jammeh advisers and long-serving ministers like Neneh MacDouall-Gaye and Fatou Lamin Faye.

Many have been calling for the arrest and questioning of some of the former regime’s officials over human rights abuses including Njie-Saidy, who was also head of the National Security Council and former Attorney General Mama Fatima Singhateh.

But President Barrow has pledged reconciliation through a truth commission, says he wants to ‘get the facts together’ regarding possible crimes of the Jammeh government to enforce the findings and recommendations of the commission.

Jammeh’s government commits serious human rights violations against perceived critics and political opponents, perpetuating a climate of fear and repression.

Forced disappearances, arbitrary detention, torture and rape were trademarks of the Jammeh government.
