Nigerian national arrested for duping son of Indian Deputy Superintendent of Police

Nagar police, India on Tuesday, April 11, arrested a 30-year-old Nigerian national on the charge of cheating the son of a Deputy Superintendent of Police of more than Rs. 14 lakh, after promising him a job in Scotland.

He allegedly cheated the police officer’s son by offering him a job in Scotland with a salary of Rs. 1.44 crore a year. The victim, an MBA graduate who was looking for jobs online, met Owen nine months ago.

The police said Owen contacted him and offered him an HR executive job in a Scotland-based company. He forged an offer letter and sought a commission of Rs. 14.3 lakh.

The victim, after transferring the money, tried contacting Owen and found that his phone was switched off.
Realising he had been cheated, the victim informed his father who registered a complaint with R.T. Nagar police.

During interrogation, Owen told police that he was involved in a similar crime earlier. But when police seized his bank account, they found only `70.

Police are investigating if others were involved in the scam.
