"Bauchi State as one of the States in North Eastern geopolitical zone is confronted with numerous security challenges which include but not limited to Kidnapping, Armed Banditry, Cattle Rustling, Rape and other manifestation of violent crimes.

The location of Balmo Forest in Darazo LGA, Buzum Forest in Ganjuwa LGA, Yuga Forest in Toro LGA, Burra forest in Ningi LGAand Yankari Games Reserve in Alkaleri LGA provided a cover for criminal elements who perpetrate heinous crimes. Recently there has been upsurge in Kidnappings of locals in those areas for ransom after which suspects hide inside the above mentioned forests which make it difficult for the Law Enforcement agencies to apprehend them due to difficult terrain, poor communication network and scattered settlements.
However, the proactive step taken by the command through robust synergy with other security agencies, Vigilante Groups and other stakeholders continue to yield positive results and the following achievements were recorded from time I took over to date.

RECOVERED ARMS AND AMMUNITION:
 Two (2) AK 47 rifles
 Eleven (11) Dane Guns
 Five (5) Single Barrel guns
Two locally made Revolver Pistols with Seven round of 9mm live ammunition
 Five (5) fabricated Pistols
 Two Fabricated Guns
Three Magazines and 115 rounds of live ammunition of 7.62mm
 Five expanded ammunition of 7.62mm
 NO OF MOTOR VEHICLES RECOVERED:
 One Mercedes Benz
 NO OF MOTORCYCLES RECOVERED:
Thirty Four (34) Motorcycles of different brands
 RECOVERED DOMESTIC ANIMALS:
 Eighty Three (83) Cows
 Sixteen (16) Goats
 MONETARY/OTHER EXHIBITS RECOVERED:
Cash in sum of One Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira only (#140,000).

Other exhibits recovered include one (1) Laptop, Nine Handsets (9) 53 wraps of dry leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, one (1) Knife, One (1) DVD player, One (1) Television, Twenty One Solar Batteries stolen from MTN Mast, etc.

However, the command has rescued about one hundred (100) hostages including One Engr. Ali Usman of PHCN Abuja, arrested over Eighty Eight (88) Suspects comprising of Fifty Nine (59) suspected kidnappers, Fourteen (14) Armed Robbery suspects etc. They have volunteered very useful information to the Police regarding their nefarious activities and level of involvements, Seventy One (71) suspects were charged to Court while Thirteen (13) others are under investigations.

Meanwhile, the command, following intelligence report recently foiled attempted jail break and arrested one Mal. Mahmud Tanimu who had concluded plans with his accomplices to break the Bauchi Federal Prison in order to free his brother who is standing trial in a case of terrorism and remanded in prison custody.

CONCLUSION: It is pertinent to emphasise here that these aforementioned successes were made possible through information availed to the Police from well meaning members of the public who as partners in progress with the Nigeria Police share our desires and aspirations to enable us provide a safe and secure environment for all residents in the State.
Finally, the command has put in place crime prevention strategies which are mainly proactive, these strategies include, visibility policing, community partnership, constant raids of black spots and criminal hideouts. Regular foot and vehicular patrols, surveillance on uncompleted buildings and vulnerable areas, stop and search duties etc.

Also, the Command has maintained a synergy and robust Inter agency co-operation with a view to sharing intelligence to assist in combating crimes. Equally, tremendous efforts are made in collaboration with all major stakeholders to get valuable information which after evaluation can be used as actionable intelligence that can assist in fighting crime in the state. The whole idea is to nip in the bud these emergent trends of crime presently bedevilling the State due to influx of suspected Cattle Rustlers, Kidnappers and Insurgents and other misguided elements from the neighbouring states.

The Command assured members of the public that despite above mentioned challenges, it is fully committed and battle ready towards ensuring safety and security in the State. People should feel free to come forward with any reasonable information and be rest assured that it will be treated with outmost confidentiality.
