Facebook Moves Johannesburg Offices, Extends Services to Saturate Africa

Social media giants, Facebook has moved its Johannesburg offices into new premises in a bid to expand its reach and saturation in Africa. 

The launch will see Facebook create a new home from which it will work with partners to boost innovation and provide solutions to business owners in Africa. 

The new office is expected to continue to provide support to Facebook advertisers, application developers and other key partners across Africa.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is holding former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu for questioning over allegations of abuse of office and money laundering.

The former governor was invited by the EFCC on Tuesday to respond to the allegations and he had faced many hours of interrogations by a crack team in the EFCC, The Nation reported.

El-Rufai Demolishes House of APC Chieftain in Kaduna

The North West Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Inuwa Abdulkadir, on Wednesday said he was not surprised by the demolition of his residence in Kaduna allegedly on the orders of Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i. 

Mr. Abdulkadir told the News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] in a telephone interview that the governor had sometimes back threatened to take such action against him.

The APC chieftain said the governor had made the threat in the presence of six other governors from the North West.

Aisha Buhari Raises Alarm Over Africa’s Out-Of-School Girls

The Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari has raised alarm over the population of Africa’s out-of-school teenage girls in New York.

Buhari made the call at a side event organised by the Federal Government in collaboration with the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) at the UN headquarters on Wednesday.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was part of the ongoing 50th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development.

Nigeria: 3 Banks In Trouble As CBN Releases Stress Test Result

Three big banks have fallen below regulatory capital requirement, the result of stress test conducted by the Central Bank of Nigeria on the status of the banking system has shown.

Overall, the result of the solvency stress test indicated the potential for high contagion risk through unsecured interbank exposure as three banks, including two Systemically Important Banks, failed Capital Adequacy Ratios after a 100 per cent default shock. 

Nigeria Step Up in April FIFA Ranking

Nigeria are now the 40th best football playing nation according to the latest Fifa ranking released on Thursday. 

The Super Eagles were ranked 41st in March ranking but this month, they moved a place up thanks to their 1-1 international friendly draw against Senegal in London.

They are fifth in Africa behind leaders, Egypt, Senegal, Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
