Nigeria: Kemi Adeosun Removed as Chairman of Public Procurement Council

Nigeria's Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun has been removed from her position as chairman of the National Council on Public Procurement.

This is as a result of the alteration made to the Public Procurement Act, 2007, passed by the House of Representatives. 

A major amendment of the Bill was the removal of Minister of Finance as Chairman of the National Council on Public Procurement. The Minister will now be replaced with a person to be appointed by the President. 

Aero Contractors Fires 900 Workers in Nigeria

Aero Contractors Airline has fired 900 of its workers, representing about 60 per cent of its workforce to cut operational costs. 

Airline, which is under the management of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), has sacked about 900 workers representing 60 per cent.

According to the airline's Media Consultant, Mr Simon Tumba, the workers who were sacked during the week, would be paid their pension and gratuity.

The troubles of the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali are not over.

Following his squabble with the Nigerian senate, the House of Representatives has ordered an investigation into the activities of the agency. 

The House on Thursday in Abuja mandated its Committee on Customs and Excise to investigate the failure of the agency to auction confiscated goods.

This followed the adoption of a motion on the “Need to Investigate the Failure of the Nigerian Customs Service to Auction Confiscated Goods’’

Fayose - Obasanjo Is The Grandfather Of Corruption In Nigeria

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as grandfather of corruption in Nigeria who sits on stolen wealth. 

According to THE NATION, the Governor challenged Obasanjo to explain to Nigerians his source of “stupendous wealth”. Fayose in a statement on Thursday by his Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said, “It smacked of the highest level of hypocrisy for someone like Obasanjo to be sermonizing about corruption, having superintended over a corrupt government himself.

Kogi Lawmakers Dump PDP for APC - We Can't Stand Modu Sheriff and Makarfi

Six lawmakers of the Kogi state House of Assembly, have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the platform on which they were elected, to defect to the APC.

The defectors are John Abah (Ibaji), Adoke Bello (Adavi), Kolawole Atthew (Kabba-Bunu), Ahmed Mohammed (Ankpa 1), Victor Omofaiye (Ijumu) and Kekere Sani-Abdulkareem (Okehi).

In a joint notification letter to the Speaker of the House, Umar Imam, they cited “factional squabbles” in the PDP, as the reason for their action.

APC Chairman Oyegun Pays Lip Service to Nigerians- Keep Enduring, Things Will Change

APC National Chairman, John Odigie Oyegun, has pacified Nigerians to keep enduring the current economic hardship.

He spoke recently during a radio program on City 101.5 FM. According to him, things will change as the Muhammadu Buhari administration is at work.

“We are changing the entire base of the economy, we are rebuilding the economy; we are working hard to replace oil, we are trying to re-access our solid mineral base and leverage other sectors like agriculture, power, infrastructure to stabilize the economy.”

Execution of Donald Trump's Revised Travel Ban Halted by American Judge

Hours before the implementation of the travel ban ordered by US President Donald Trump, an Hawaiian judge issued an emergency halt of its execution. 

President Trump signed the new order on the 6th of March. The order was supposed to overcome legal issues associated with a January executive order which banned citizens of 7 Islamic nations from entering the US.
