The trial of 23 INEC staff accused of collecting N360 million in connection with the Rivers State re-run election started today at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The defendants are facing a seven count criminal charge of money laundering and corruption, contrary to the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011. 

The defendants include Shittu Lamido (Shettima), Henry Owokure, Peter Ewatade, Mrs. Mary Tunkoyo Pennap, Gwatana Jibril, Ivase Stephen,  Abdullahi Ogabo, Gayus Hassan, Hussaina Yahaya, James Ogwuche, Karimu Aminu and Adedokun Najeem Ayotunde.

Others are Balogun Funmilayo, Adams Kadiri, Akinwande Adesoji, Lukeman Olabimpe and Tiamiyu R. Arowolo, Akinwoye Amodu, Nwoha Yusuf, Patrick Anuke, Iro Abali, Nwosu Oluchi and Arukwe Chinelo.

Big Brother Naija; TBoss, ThinTallTony, Debbie-Rise, and Efe up for eviction

Shortly after he was displaced by Bassey as the new Head of House, ThinTallTony has been nominated for eviction. He was joined by three other housemates: TBoss, Debbie-Rise, and Efe.

During the diary session, most of the housemates nominated Bally because they felt it was high time Bally experienced the tension and anxiety that come with the eviction fever, especially having been saved from previous eviction. He was however once again saved by the head of house, Bassey who replaced him with Efe.

Senate insist Customs Comptroller General, Hameed Ali, must appear before house in his uniform

The last has not been heard of the faceoff between the senate and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service NCS, Hameed Ali, as the senate today maintained its position that the Customs boss must appear before it dressed in his uniform as a Customs officer. 

 

The senate has invited him to appear before the house tomorrow dressed in his uniform to explain the agency's new vehicle duty policy where owners of old cars are expected to pay duty if their importers failed to pay when they were brought into the country.

Friends mourn 14 year old kick boxer, who reportedly died after collapsing during national title fight (photos)

A 14 year old kick boxer,  Scott Marsden, from Hillsborough, Sheffield has reportedly died after he collapsed during an English National title fight in Leeds and was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.

The fight which happened on Saturday, had to be stopped by the referee after he received so many blows to his body and then collapsed, and now friends early Tuesday morning have taken to social media to mourn Scott, who they say passed away last night.

Photos: Nigeria Customs impounds 40ft container of fish worth N22m for false declaration

The Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service has impounded a forty foot container laden with Tilapia Fish from Turkey.

Addressing newsmen in Lagos, Customs Area Controller of the Command, Jibrin Musa disclosed that the importer declared apples as the content of the container before scanning proved it to be 2700 cartons of prohibited frozen fish.

Jibrin told journalists that aside the offence of false declaration, the import also contravened the law as it failed the requirement for license and quota expected for importers of allowable fish species into Nigeria.
