Politics; Delta: I Didn't Give $10m Bailout Fund To Girlfriend - Gov. Okowa

The Delta State Government has denied and distanced itself from news circulating in the media regarding a report which claimed the state Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa was defrauded of $10 million belonging to the state by his mistress.


According to the state government, the report which was published in The Nation Newspaper on Saturday, January 28, 2017 has no iota of truth in it as the state governor was neither under the radar of the EFCC nor did he lose the said amount.

In a statement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah on behalf of the government, the state government stressed that the public should discard the falsehood 

Poly Lecturers Begin One Week Warning Strike Today


The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, will today, Monday, 30th of January, 2017  begin a one week nationwide warning strike over Federal Government’s alleged refusal to reopen negotiations on the agreement it entered with the union in 2010. 

Speaking to newsman in Asaba, weekend, National Coordinator of ASUP in the South-South and South-East geo-political zones, Dr. Chika Ogonwa, said the union might be forced to shut down the polytechnic system should the Federal Government refuse to address their grievancess. 

Barrow Renames The Gambia, Says It’s A REPUBLIC, Not Islamic Republic


The Gambian President Adama Barrow said Saturday that every aspect of his tiny west African state would need an overhaul after ex-leader Yahya Jammeh's 22-year rule, but that its dreaded secret police would remain.

Barrow faces an uphill task after taking over from Jammeh, who left behind a dysfunctional economy and allegedly emptied state coffers ahead of his departure.

Rights group blame the notorious National Intelligence Agency (NIA) under his longtime control for forced disappearances and torture.

Fire Guts NNPC Depot In Suleja


The Niger State Fire Service has confirmed an early morning fire outbreak at the NNPC depot in Suleja.
Mr Mohammad Kwale, the officer in charge of the service in Suleja, told Vanguard on Sunday that the outbreak affected the loading section in the depot.

”The outbreak started around 4:30am when we were called. By 5:00am we have put out the flames. A Petrol tanker on fire ”An articulated vehicle was burnt while the loading canopy and some pipes were damaged. No life was, however, lost in the incidence,” he told newsmen.

The Minister for Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung has lost his first wife. Dalung announced the passing away of his wife, Mrs Briskila Dalung today on his Facebook page. He wrote;

A tourist has been mauled by three tigers in front of his wife and child, horrified witnesses say.

One tiger was shot dead after the visitor reportedly climbed into the enclosure and walked towards the animals as they were being fed. Horror footage shows the tigers leap on the man at Ningbo Younger Zoo, leaving him writhing around on the ground in agony as they passed him between their massive paws.
