Serena Williams Wins Australian Open And Clinches Record 23rd Grand Slam Title With Victory Over Sister Venus


Serena Williams is officially the greatest player of the modern era after beating her sister Venus to win her 23rd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

The new world No 1 overtakes the previous record she shared with Steffi Graf. Only Margaret Court, who won 13 of her 24 Majors before the Open era started in 1969, has ever won more.

Serena beat Venus 6-4 6-4 in 82 minutes to win her seventh Australian Open title without dropping a set.

Trump, Putin Schedule Phone Call For First Time Since Inauguration

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have scheduled to speak on the phone tomorrow (Saturday) in their first conversation since Trump took office.

Trump has vowed to have better relations with Russia than his predecessor.
This month, he suggested he would lift sanctions imposed by the Obama administration if the Kremlin helps the US battle terrorists.
In his new year's message, Putin congratulated Trump and expressed hope their two countries would be able to "take their interaction in the international arena to a whole new level."

The Kogi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has given the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello four weeks ultimatum to reconcile the on-going staff audit in the state.

Senator Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West), who spoke on behalf of the party gave the ultimatum at a news conference on Friday in Abuja.

He said that staff audit the world over was a periodic exercise to monitor and evaluate public servants for promotions, retirements, new employment opportunities and elimination of ghost workers.
