Photos: 17-storey commercial building collapses in Iran, kills 70


No fewer than 70 people, mostly firefighters, were killed after a 17-storey commercial building in Iran’s capital Tehran, was razed by fire, killing 70 people. The incident happened this morning

The building referred to as Plasco building, was a symbol of modernity that was constructed in the early 1960s. The fire started in the early hours of today. Firefighters were called in and as they tried to extinguish the fire, the building collapsed, killing over 50 of them.

Photo: Nigerian trafficking victim told Irish court how she was forced to have sex with up to ten men a day


A Nigerian woman who was trafficked into Ireland and forced into prostitution narrated to the court how she was made to was have sex with up to ten men a day for no payment.
She disclosed this in Dublin court on Tuesday, January 17th, during the trial of Joy Imasogie, 40, (pictured above) an alleged trafficker. 

The woman told a jury she underwent a "voodoo process" in Nigeria before coming to Ireland, during which she swore she would not report Imasogie. 

Botswana Becomes First African State To Announce It No Longer Recognises Yahya Jammeh As The Gambia's President

No time! Botswana has become the first African state to announce that it no longer recognises Yahya Jammeh as The Gambia's president following his refusal to hand power to Adama Barrow who defeated him in elections on 1 December.


In a statement, Botswana's government said: 

Mr Jammeh’s decision not to respect the will of the Gambian people undermines the ongoing efforts to consolidate democracy and good governance in The Gambia and Africa as a whole. This is also in direct contravention of the spirit and aspirations of the African Union Constitutive Act.

Outgoing President, Barrack Obama, who had earlier said he was going to take some quiet time off and even do some writing after he steps down, has now issued a warning to Trump, letting him know that he will not be silent if he notices Trump's policies and actions as president goes against certain core values and infringes on human rights.

Gambian president-elect, Adama Barrow, sworn into office

Gambian President-elect, Adama Barrow, has been sworn into office at the Gambian embassy in Dakar, Senegal. He took his oath of office this evening.
 "This is a day no Gambian will ever forget in a lifetime," Barrow said in a speech immediately after being sworn in.

 Meanwhile his predecessor, Yahya Jammeh, maintains he is still the legal president of the country.
