The trial of Mr Joachim Chinakwe Iroko (second from left) at the Magistrate's Court of Ogun State holden at Ota could not proceed on Wednesday, 18th January 2017 owing to the unavailability of presiding Magistrate, P. J. Ojikutu who was said to be attending a screening exercise.

The biological mother of 7-year-old Joshua Zikeme who was tortured to death at Akaba, Bayelsa, by his father and stepmother has spoken out about the death of her son.

29-year-old Erueke John revealed to Vanguard that her son was tortured after a mushroom church in Yenagoa alleged that he was a wizard.

This led to him being tied to a stake and chunks of his flesh were sliced off in an attempt to exorcise him, thereby leading to his death. 


She said that though her son was stubborn, that did not make him a wizard.

Texas police detective Jerry Walker killed in standoff


A Texas police detective Jerry Walker died after being shot by a man barricaded inside a residence, the town's police chief said at a news conference on Tuesday night. 

The suspected gunman was later found dead after the hours-long standoff.


The last police detective along with a group of officers responded to an afternoon 911 call of an armed man in a backyard. Officers observed a man with  a rifle screaming, according Lt. Orlando Hinojosa. The suspect then ran into the residence, and after a period of talking with officers, began firing his weapon.
Walker, 48, was shot by the suspected gunman, placed in a squad car and transported by helicopter to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Niger Delta rulers did not walk out on Vice President Osinbajo- Presidency


Special Adviser to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, has denied online reports that traditional rulers in the Niger Delta walked out on Osinbajo during a meeting with them on Monday January 16th. 

Osinbajo had visited the region to chart new ways of restoring peace to the region as well as find solutions to the under development in that area despite the presence of oil.
