Cash-rich Malawian Minister, Kondwani Nankhumwa asked to explain his ‘sudden wealth’

Kondwani Nankhumwa, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development in Malawi, has sparked outrage in the country with critics demanding the cash-rich minister to explain the source of his 'sudden wealth'.

It comes after the minister went on a spree, spending over K23 million (N9M) on his Mulanje constituency but many are saying the figure could be around K40 million ( N17M).
The minister who earn as low as K1,608, recently donated an ambulance to Mulanje district hospital, two motorcycles and 300 bicycles to the Police station in Mulanje.

World Bank predicts Nigeria will get out of recession this year


The World Bank has released its January 2017 Global Economic Prospects report(read here) in which it predicted that Nigeria will get out of the current economic recession this year. The report in part reads...

“Sub-Saharan African growth is expected to pick up modestly to 2.9 per cent in 2017 as the region continues to adjust to lower commodity prices. Growth in South Africa and oil exporters is expected to be weaker, while growth in economies that are not natural-resource intensive should remain robust. Growth in South Africa is expected to edge up to a 1.1 per cent pace this year. Nigeria is forecast to rebound from recession and grow at a 1 per cent pace. Angola is projected to expand at a 1.2 per cent pace.”

Angry brother stabs older sister over land dispute in Malawi

A 58-year-old woman from Malawi is battling for her life at Karonga district hospital after she was stabbed by her younger brother, Medson Mwekinda, over a land dispute.

The victim identified as Flyness Kinda, was stabbed in the head and right arm by her brother who is presently on the run..
In an interview, which was published on Nyasa Times this morning, a member of the family, Ellen Kinda said Medson Mwekinda blocked the victim on her way to the land and attacked her.

Convict Who Killed Two Over $20 Drug Deal Becomes First Inmate Executed In 2017


A Texas man who killed two people in a revenge plot over a $20 drug deal has become the first US inmate executed in 2017.

Christopher Wilkins, 48, was executed by lethal injection at 6pm on Wednesday in the state's death chamber in Huntsville.

The execution is the 539th in Texas since the US Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976 - the most of any state.

A 23-year-old self-employed woman dealing in used ladies shoes from Berekum in the Berekum Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region, Sakina Mustapha, is in the grips of the Police for attempting to smuggle a substance suspected to be cocaine to an inmate at the Sunyani Prisons.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Prisons, ASP. Johann Nii Narh Nartey, the suspect believed to be a member of a notorious drug syndicate terrorizing residents in the area, was arrested on Monday at the Sunyani Central Prison with the substance.
He explained that Sakina was apprehended at the Sunyani Prison Barracks after she paid a visit to a prisoner in custody, Taufik Mohammed, who is serving a ten (10) year jail term with hard labour for narcotic drug offences.

A pregnant man has revealed on Lorraine that he's been getting DEATH threats over his decision to have a child.

Former Asda worker, Hayden Cross, was born a woman but began transitioning when he was 17-years-old.

While he is now legally male, Hayden stopped his transition so he could get pregnant and have a biological child before it was too late.

"It's quite scary, but I'm happy I'm going to have a biological kid. I wanted my eggs frozen. Not everyone wants kids when they're young," Hayden told Lorraine.
