NUPENG suspends its 3-day warning strike

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers(NUPENG) has called off its three-day nationwide warning strike which kicked off Wednesday January 11th. President of‎ NUPENG, Igwe Achese called off the strike after a reconciliatory stakeholders meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige in Abuja.

16 soldiers declared missing found dead in Maiduguri

16 soldiers who were declared missing last year after an attack by Boko Haram members in Gashigar Borno state, have been found dead. According to the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Lucky Irabor, who addressed a press conference Tuesday, the remains of the missing soldiers were found along the Kamadogou River line area in Maiduguri and have all been buried.

Pogba missed out on the FIFA team of the year by just two votes

In case you're wondering how the most  expensive player on the planet didn't make FIFA's team of the year, world football's governing body has an explanation. In an announcement, FIFA said: 

"The closest call was the third midfield position, with Kroos narrowly beating Pogba by two votes'. 'It is the smallest margin ever in the 12-year World XI history to decide on inclusion in the World XI.'

Michael Owen under fire after poking fun at Brazilian Ronaldo's weight

Even during his playing days, Ronaldo de Lima was not renowned for his attention to fitness. Having retired and freed himself of the rigorous physical exercises demanded of a top flight player, he has really let himself go and piled on the pounds. His ex-Madrid teammate, Michael Owen took to twitter to joke about his weight but the Brazilian didn't take too kindly to it. The three-time FIFA World Player of the Year said:

24-year-old Second Lieutenant Thokozile Muwamba became Zambia’s first female fighter pilot after completing her training with the country's Air Force. Muwamba joined the military in 2012 and pursued her dream career of being a pilot after she quit as a first year student at the Copperbelt University (CBU).

"Men are not a competition but counterparts that one should work with, and hence women should begin to participate and realise their abilities. Because of this understanding, I am ready to undertake this task ahead of me," she told Times of Zambia last week.

Randy monkey is filmed trying to have sex with deer almost twice its size

A horny monkey on the Japanese island of Yakushima was filmed trying to mate with two female Sika deer almost twice its size. In the footage which was taken in November 2014, the monkey mounted the first female and when it encountered no resistance, unsuccessfully tried to relieve its sexual pressure.

Buhari appoints Dr. Faisal Shuaib as head of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency

President Buhari Wednesday approved the appointment of Dr. Faisal Shuaib as the Executive Secretary of National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA). Dr. Shuaib, a medical doctor and public health specialist, is currently a Senior Program Officer (Africa) for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) at Seattle, USA.

At the BMGF, Dr. Shuaib is responsible for developing and implementing strategies on polio outbreak response activities in Africa. Prior to joining the foundation, Dr. Shuaib coordinated Nigeria’s successful response to the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) as the Incident Manager of the Ebola Emergency Operations Centre in 2014.
