Senate Confirms New Auditor-General Of Federation

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nomination of Anthony Ayine as the Auditor-General of the Federation.

President Muhammadu Buhari had last year nominated Mr. Ayine to fill the post currently held by Florence Anyanwu in acting capacity.

The confirmation of Mr. Ayine followed the presentation of the report on his screening by the chairman of the committee on public accounts, Andy Uba.

I Don’t Have Any Bank Account, Aircraft Or Real Estate Outside Nigeria – Jonathan


Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, denied media reports that he received bribes in the $1.3billion Oil Prospecting Licence, OPL 245 oil block deal involving Italian oil company, ENI and Royal Dutch Shell of the Netherlands. 

According to reports, Italian prosecutors had, in court documents filed last month in Milan, claimed that ENI Chief Executive, Claudio Descalzi, and his predecessor, Paolo Scaroni, met Dr. Jonathan personally to discuss the deal.  They further alleged that Dr. Jonathan and former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, benefited from the $466 million allegedly used to bribe some Nigerian government officials and another $54 million withdrawn by one Abubakar Aliyu, who the prosecutors claimed was Jonathan’s agent.

Ogun Demolishes Health Centre Being Fixed By Kashamu


The Ogun State Government yesterday demolished a Primary Health Centre at Obada in Ijebu Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state. The facility was said to be undergoing renovation without approval by the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Senator Buruji Kashamu, which necessitated its being pulled down by the agents of the state government.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye and the chairman, Ijebu North,Mr. Adebayo Adekoya were said to have witnessed the demolition exercise. According to the state government which spoke through Adekoya, the lawmaker goofed by not seeking approval from either the state or the local government before embarking on the renovation.

Morocco Bans Sale Of Full-Face Veil?


Morocco has banned the production and sale of full-face Muslim veils apparently for security reasons, according to local media reports.

While there was no official announcement by authorities in the North African nation, the reports said the interior ministry order would take effect this week.

"We have taken the step of completely banning the import, manufacture and marketing of this garment in all the cities and towns of the kingdom," the Le360 news site quoted a high-ranking interior ministry official as saying on Tuesday.

Jammeh Asks Buhari, Others To Postpone Gambia Trip


At the instance of President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia, the high level ECOWAS mediation mission led by Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has pushed forward its visit to Banjul, the capital of Gambia, to Friday. President Buhari’s office disclosed this on Tuesday, according to Premium Times.

In accepting to postpone the visit earlier planned to take place on Wednesday, President Buhari, who is mediating alongside John Mahama, the immediate past president of Ghana, said the delay notwithstanding, the mandate of the ECOWAS will be accomplished.
