Dylann Roof sentenced to death for Charleston church massacre

Three hours after he told a crowded courtroom, “I still feel like I had to do it,” Dylann Roof was sentenced to death by a federal jury Tuesday for carrying out the mass shooting inside Charleston's Emanuel AME Church which took the lives of 9 black men and women.

The 12-member panel which consisted of three black jurors, nine white – deliberated for a little less than three hours before unanimously deciding the 22-year-old self-avowed white supremacist should be sentenced to death for his heinous crimes rather than spend his life in prison without the possibility of parole. 

U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel has scheduled a hearing for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to formally impose that sentence and hear from loved ones of the victims who wish to address the killer.

I first came to Chicago when I was in my early twenties, still trying to figure out who I was; still searching for a purpose to my life. It was in neighborhoods not far from here where I began working with church groups in the shadows of closed steel mills. It was on these streets where I witnessed the power of faith, and the quiet dignity of working people in the face of struggle and loss. This is where I learned that change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged, and come together to demand it.

Rock Band, U2 delays album release over Donald Trump's victory

Rock band, U2 has decided to delay the release of their upcoming album, "Songs of Experience," because of the election of Donald Trump.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, the band's guitarist, David Evans, commonly known as "The Edge," said the group had nearly completed their newest album when "the election (happened) and suddenly the world changed."

"We just went, 'Hold on a second, we've got to give ourselves a moment to think about this record and about how it relates to what's going on in the world. It's like a pendulum has suddenly just taken a huge swing in the other direction." the U2 member said.

Barack Obama's emotional farewell speech and why Sasha Obama missed it

US President Barack Obama wiped away tears as he gave an emotional thank you message to his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama during his emotional farewell speech on Tuesday night in his adopted hometown of Chicago. The speech was held at  Chicago's McCormick Place.

He talked about the challenges and achievements of his two-term presidency. He remained optimistic and urged people to participate in the democratic process and fight racism. He concluded his speech by calling Michelle a 'role model' for the country, as well as his 'best friend'. 

Randy Quaid pens open letter to Meryl Streep, says she's heartbroken because she failed

Actor Randy Quaid has performed in over 90 films and has been nominated for just about every prestigious film award under the sun. After Meryl Streep's Golden Globes speech about President-elect Donald Trump, Quaid penned an open letter to her on his Twitter account.

Although he “empathizes” with the actress' feelings over the lost election, Quaid wasn't willing to overlook the hypocrisy of her speech. His letter called out the “bullying” that occurs within their own industry:

“You stated in your speech that 'when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.' You’ve got bullying galore going on right in front of you, but either you’re pointedly ignoring it or you just don’t have a clue.”

The Kardashian's DASH store robbed

Kim Kardashian's family's DASH store that was robbed by a woman who strolled into the Melrose Avenue boutique Monday, grabbed a bunch of clothing and perfume and fled in aSILVER sedan without paying for the items. According to TMZ, the woman made off with about $1,600 in DASH items and still hasn't been found by the police.
