Rich Getting Richer: Tinubu And 17 Other Prominent Nigerians Get Oil Contracts From NNPC (See List)

The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced a list of firms who won the bid to purchase and lift crude oil for Nigeria from 2017 to 2018.
On the list are 39 firms among which 18 are owned by Nigerians. The others include 11 international traders, 5 foreign refineries, 3 National Oil Companies (NOCs) and 2 NNPC trading arms.
Below are the names of prominent Nigerians whose firms would be lifting Nigeria’s crude oil for the one year duration.

Nigerian Army Rescues Another Chibok Girl With Baby Near Sambisa

Sahara Reporters is reporting that troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued another one of the more than 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014.
According to the report, the girl was rescued with her baby near Sambisa Forest.
Sahara Reporters quotes a government source as saying that the name of the girl rescued is Rakiya Abubakar and she was carrying baby that appears to be hers.
The rescue was made by troops of the 27 Brigade of the Nigerian Army around Alagarno near Ajigin in Damboa local government area of Borno state.
Rakiya makes the 29th Chibok girl rescued out of the more than 200 girls abducted by Islamist Boko Haram fighters in April 2014 while preparing for their secondary school examinations.

Nigerian Lady Emerges Britian’s Best Pharmacist, 2016

Britain’s favourite pharmacist has been announced. Olutayo Arikawe, 39, from Dudley has been named the national winner of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s annual I Love My Pharmacist competition, which celebrates the exceptional contribution pharmacists make to patient care on a daily basis across the UK.
Olutayo who runs a Community Pharmacy in Dudley, was shortlisted by an expert panel to become one of the 23 finalists. Thousands of members of the public then voted for their favourite pharmacist. Olutayo was announced as the regional winner for Midlands and East.

Pres. Buhari approves arms bearing for airport security officers

President Buhari has granted approval for security agents stationed at various airports to carry arms. Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, disclosed this while speaking to State House correspondents.
“We are very serious about aviation security. Just last week, the President approved that aviation security should bear arms. So, we are trying to make them take the form and shape of Transportation Security Administration, TSA of the US with K-9 dogs,
handcuffs, guards, batons, light weapons, among others. The Minister of Interior is helping us in that regard with the directive of the President. They are partnering us to keep our airports secure. All these will be unveiled at the next stakeholders meeting”he said

U.S., China Ban Ivory Trade To Protect Africa’s Elephants


The U.S. Government and its Chinese counterpart are collaborating to ban ivory trade to help preserve the elephant population particularly from Africa.

A statement made available in New York on Wednesday by the U.S. Department of State, noted that U.S. and China are the two world’s largest markets for ivory.

“On Dec. 30, 2016, China announced its plans for implementing a ban on domestic commercial trade of ivory. This commitment follows the United States’ own near-total ivory ban enactment on July 6, 2016. We welcome China’s announcement. It sets an ambitious, but achievable, timetable to enact a near-total ban on domestic commercial sales of ivory by Dec. 31, 2017.

10,000 Youths To Benefit From CBN Anchor Borrowers Scheme


About 10,000 youths and other small scale farmers are set to benefit from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Anchor Borrowers Programme, in Ogun state.

The State Coordinator and Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Mr Tosin Ademuyiwa, disclosed this in Abeokuta, the state capital, at the flag-off of the programme.

He explained that the programme was aimed at creating employment for youths and boosting agricultural production for food security in the State.
