President Buhari had a closed door meeting with Senate president, Bukola Saraki, at the state house Abuja today. The meeting which held inside President Buhari's private office, started at about 12 noon.

Nigeria’s population rises to 193.4 million according to NBS forecast


The population of Nigeria which was at 140,431,790 during the last population census in 2006 has been estimated to currently be at 193,392,517. This is according to the National Population Commission (NPC) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

According to the forecast released by NBS, Kano is the city with the highest population of 13,076,892  people, followed by Lagos with 9,113,605 people. This report contradicts that given by the Lagos State Government and the United Nations which places the population of Lagos at 22 million people.

Kaduna is estimated to be the third most populated state with 8,252,366 people, followed by Oyo state which has a population estimate of 7,840,864. Katsina has a population of 7,831,319 people, having been displaced by Oyo state to the fifth position.

New Boko Haram Video, A Mere Terrorists’ Propaganda- Army


The Nigerian Army said the new Boko Haram video was undergoing a forensic analysis, adding that the troops were still making concerted effort to clear the hiding places of the terrorists.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, who stated this in a statement on Thursday, said the video clip was a mere terrorists’ propaganda, adding that there was no cause for alarm.

He said, “While effort is ongoing to subject the video to further forensic analysis, the Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate that it has captured and occupied the last known stronghold of the terrorist group in the Sambisa Forest.

Suspected Boko Haram members attack troops in Borno


Suspected Boko Haram members this morning launched an attack on a military station at Rann, Borno state. The sect members armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the military station at about 6am and began shooting sporadically.

The troops who are mainly from 3 Battalion and 112 Task Force Battalion, reacted promptly and killed about 15 of the insurgents as well as injured many others. The attack according to military sources lasted for three hours.

A 37-year-old man who stabbed his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend to death in a senseless attack was on December 19th, sentenced to life imprisonment.

2 killed as Igbos, Fulanis clash in Enugu

Two people were killed yesterday during a fight between Fulani herdsmen and some Igbo traders at Gariki market in Enugu state. According to reports, the fight started after a herdsman identified as Ali came to an abattoir at the Market to slaughter a cow. He was charged N500 but paid N400 after he finished slaughtering his cow. The abattoir attendant identified as Ifeanyi Ifeacho asked for the N100 balance but Ali allegedly refused to pay.
