US Olympic swimmer who came into world limelight when he supposedly made up a story about being robbed by the Brazilian police at gun point at the 2016 Rio Olympic announced on IG that he is expecting his first child with his fiancé, model Kayla Reid. Anti-smuggling: Nigeria Customs seizes 13,678 bags of rice, poultry, vegetable oil,others (photos)

Within the months of October and November 2016, the Federal Operations Unit Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service has recovered six hundred and eleven million, six hundred and seventy six thousand, nine hundred and thirty eight naira (N611, 676, 938). This amount was regained from economic saboteurs that attempted false declaration, transfer of value and short change of duty payment. Parboiled rice (13,678 bags), Frozen poultry products (12,007 cartons) and vegetable oil (668 jerry cans) were the top items on the seizure list and over 200 other items comprising of vehicles, and various merchandise.
Lekki Gardens building collapse: Contractors, others to be prosecuted - LASG

The Lagos State Government is set to commence the prosecution of suspects linked to the collapse of a five - story building on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, in Lekki, Lagos which led to the death of 30 persons. A press statement issued and signed by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem stated that the Government has concluded all legal preparations and is ready to prosecute the nine suspects deemed culpable in the collapse of the building. According to the statement:
"Following the conclusion of investigation by the Nigeria Police Force and technical reports of relevant experts, the Office of the Attorney-General has concluded its Legal Advice and decided to prosecute the suspects for failure to obtain Planning Permit contrary to the provisions of the State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, and Involuntary Manslaughter contrary to the provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 respectively".

Rivers Rerun: Police arrest five suspects, recovers INEC materials, arms and ammunition (photos)

Police on Wednesday, paraded five suspects who attempted to scuttle the 10th December, 2016 Rivers State parliamentary re-run elections. Sensitive INEC material, arms and ammunition were recovered from them. According to a press release signed by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Don Awunah, the suspects were responsible for several armed attacks that took place during the elections, in particular Omoku where a police officer was gruesomely killed. "It is a statement of fact that the recently concluded Rivers State parliamentary election held on 10th December 2016 from security perspectives was a huge success. Arguably, the conduct of the election in terms of police performance was acknowledged by major stakeholders as distinctively professional and a well-organized election when compared with previous elections in the state which major hallmarks were violence, disruption of electoral process, wanton destruction of lives and property.
Man sentenced to 11 years in jail for setting his beauty queen girlfriend on fire

An Ohio man, Michael Slager, 41, who was arrested in 2015 for pouring gasoline on his then-girlfriend and lighting her on fire was sentenced Monday to 11 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated arson, possession of criminal tools and assault.
Slager pleaded no contest to all three criminal counts right before his sentencing, according to a statement from Ron O’Brien, the prosecutor for Ohio’s Franklin County.
O’Brien said in his statement that Slager received the maximum sentence for his crimes.
On Aug. 2, 2015, police responded to a gas station incident in Gahanna, Ohio, after dispatchers received reports from several witnesses that a woman had been set ablaze and engulfed in flames.
