Ooni of Ife blasts Oba of Ugbo for referring to yoruba ancestral Queen, Moremi, as a traitor not worthy of celebration


In a statement released from his palace this afternoon, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, blasted oil magnate and Oba of Ugbo Kingdom in Ondo state, Oba Federick Akinruntan, for recently referring to yoruba ancestral queen, Queen Moremi as a traitor not worthy to be celebrated.

Akinruntan at a recent function, condemned Ile-Ife people for celebrating Queen Moremi and even erecting a stature in her honor.

In his reaction, the Ooni of Ife says Akinruntan's statement smacks of royal rascality and a pitiable act of absurdity that doesn't deserve serious attention by serious minded people. Read what Akinruntan said about Queen Moremi and the Ooni of Ife's reply below...

Presidency replies Emir of Kano after he berated the Federal government for seeking $30bn loan


Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, on Friday berated the President Buhari-led government for seeking to borrow $30 billion from International financial institutions. At a policy dialogue forum organised by Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development in Abuja, the Emir stated that nobody in the International community will borrow Nigeria such an amount of money.

According to him, the poor state of our economy will not make any lender take Nigeria serious, adding that even if the National Assembly eventually grants the request for Nigeria to borrow such a loan, no global financial institution will offer such a loan to Nigeria.

The Federal Government has granted officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC, the authority to carry arms while on duty. Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, disclosed this while speaking at the end of the year management strategy session for the parastatal in Abuja this weekend.

 According to Oyeyemi, the need for the officers to bear arms arose from the increased number of violent attacks and killing of some of its operatives while on duty. According to Oyeyemi,  over 70 of its personnel have been killed in 2016 alone as a result of violent attacks by angry motorists. Oyeyemi said the FRSC Establishment Act gives power to the corps to bear arms and that the Federal Government had earlier approved that, with about 5,000 personnel already undergoing training on firearms.

Indonesian Plane Carrying Policemen Goes Missing


Thirteen people are feared dead after an Indonesian police plane lost contact during a flight today to the island of Batam near Singapore.

The light cargo and passenger M28 Skytruck plane, carrying five crew members and eight passengers, dropped out of contact midmorning about 50 minutes after taking off from Pangkal Pinang in Bangka Belitung province off the southeast coast of Sumatra island, police said in a statement. It was scheduled to land in Batam in nearby Riau Kepulauan province at 10:58 a.m.
