Photo: Muslim Cleric Stabs Lagos Landlord To Death


An Islamic cleric, Alfa Ganiyu Umaru, is being detained by the police for allegedly killing his landlord in one-storeyed building in Agbotikuyo bus stop, Ipaja, Lagos State.

This is just as relatives and friends of the 45-year-old victim, Tajudeen Popoola, said they had yet to come to terms with the reality of his death.

Punch Metro learnt that Umaru, who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, and Tajudeen had been at loggerheads for some time over Umaru’s alleged immoral behaviour.

He was said to have criticised the cleric for drinking and performing rituals on the ground that such acts contravened Islamic doctrines. It was said the criticism usually resulted in exchange of words between both.

FG’s Huge Debts Crippling Financial System – CBN


The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday called on the Federal Government to urgently evaluate the level of its domestic indebtedness and develop a framework for settling these debts.
The committee, in a communique issued at the end of its two-day meeting held at the headquarters of the CBN in Abuja, warned that the huge government indebtedness to economic agents had slowed down business activities.
In the communique, which was read by the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the committee noted that the development was not good for the economy as it was compromising the integrity of the financial system.

Man Narrates How His Wife Was Roasted Alive Over Politics In Abia State


For the Orioha family of Umuezeagu, Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Council Area of Abia State, Wednesday, November 9, 2016, would remain a sad day for them forever. This was the day their 36 –year-old wife and mother of four, Mrs. Amaechi Orioha, was burnt to death by political thugs while she was in her office at Okpuala, the headquarters of Isiala Ngwa North Council.

It was the day Abia State Chapter of  PDP held primary election to select chairmanship candidates ahead of next month’s Local Government elections. It was a huge shock, pain and grief for the Oriohas that their wife who like any other day, went to work but could not return. Rather, what they heard was the devastating news that she was trapped in the office of the Chairman of the council where she worked as a clerical officer. Since then, life has not been the same for her 51- year- old husband/ farmer, Mr. Emmanuel Orioha and his four children, two boys and two girls and indeed, the entire Orioha family.

Nigerian army officially declares 46 soldiers missing after Boko Haram attack five weeks ago


46 soldiers are said to have gone missing following an attack by the sect members 5 weeks ago. The soldiers who were involved in an operation against the insurgents in the north east, went missing after the troops overpowered the sect members during a fierce gun battle.

Premium Times reports that the families of the missing soldiers have been contacted by the Nigerian Army, requesting their next of kins of to forward their bank account numbers so that the entitlements of the soldiers can be paid.

Military sources said the declaration and notification to families of the missing soldiers were contained in a notice sent out on November 20th by the new commander of the Nigerian Army 145 Task Force Battalion in Damasak, Borno State, Lt. Col. M. Jimoh. Spokesperson of the Army, Col S.K Usman has not reacted to this recent development.

Two siblings, son of a traditional ruler sentenced to death by hanging for committing murder


Justice Kudirat Jose of the Ikeja High Court have sentenced two brothers of the same parents, Shola Oni and Kayode Oni as well as the son of a traditional ruler in Oshodi Lagos State, Ibrahim Omilade, to death by hanging for committing murder in December 2012.

The court yesterday heard how the trio on December 25th 2012 killed one Suleiman Afolabi during a fight at Eyin Ogun Street, Mafoluku, Oshodi, where they lived. The three men had attacked the victim with a machete, causing him to bleed to death.

Justice Jose while delivering judgement said

“I pronounce the defendants guilty as charged in respect of the offence of murder and conspiracy and are hereby sentenced to death by hanging by the neck until their death.”
