Governor Bello In German Hospital For Eye Surgery


Contrary to the claims by the Kogi State Government that Governor Yahaya Bello is healthy, investigations, on Monday, revealed that he had been admitted into a hospital in Germany for eye surgery.
The Punch learnt that the governor was in Dubai en route to Germany for the operation, which is expected to correct an eye ailment that had been troubling him for sometime.
The nature of the eye problem could not be ascertained on Monday, but a senior official in the state confirmed to one of Punch correspondents on condition of anonymity that Bello travelled with some close aides and officials for the surgery.

Dad Arrested For Breaking Son’s Arm After Boy Goes Missing


The police in Lagos State have arrested a man, Adeyemi Adekunle, for allegedly brutalising his eight-year-old son in the Dopemu area of the state.

It was learnt that Adekunle, who was arrested by the Dopemu Police Division on Monday, allegedly fractured the boy’s two arms for missing from home for two days.

It was gathered that the boy, whose name was not disclosed by the police, had gone missing on Saturday from their apartment on Kolawole Street, Dopemu.
Adekunle was said to have gone to the police on Sunday to report a case of missing person.
Punch Metro was told that the victim was, however, seen on Monday wandering in the area, after which the father was informed.

A Punch correspondent gathered that Adekunle, who had reportedly divorced the victim’s mother and remarried, allegedly beat up his son, and broke his two arms.

Rapist Gets 13 Years For Three-Day Attack On Student


A rapist has been jailed for 13 years after holding his victim captive for three days. Jordan Smith, 21, kept the university student quiet by threatening to shoot her father if she made a sound.

He punched her repeatedly on the head, stomach, hips and thighs while he also said he would stab or shoot her.

Smith made the threat to kill the victim’s father when she came to his house in Chingford, East London, to try and find her.
He returned the next day and the victim broke down, telling him what had happened. Smith told police that they had had consensual sex and denied holding her against her will.

But the jury found him guilty of two counts of rape, one of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment and assault by penetration.

Man Arraigned For Allegedly Raping Another Man’s Wife


A taxi driver, Ikechukwu Onyia, 48, was on Monday arraigned before a Enugu High Court judge for allegedly raping another man’s wife.
Onyia was earlier brought before an Enugu South Magistrates’ Court for forcefully having carnal advantage of another man’s wife.
He was subsequently granted bail and the case transferred to the high court for trial.

Narrating the incident, the accused said that on Sept. 20, 2012, his female friend of more than three years called him to pick her at the motor park with his cab and that he took her to his house.
He said, “After staying with me in my house, she told me her problem and I gave her some money, dropped her at a bus stop and went my way.”

The Nigerian military today buried the deceased Commander of the 272 Special Task Force Tanks Battalion, Lt. Col. Muhammad Abu Ali and five other soldiers at the Nigerian Military Cemetery, Abuja.
The soldiers were killed by the insurgents at the Battle of Mallam Fatori. They have been described as among the best in the Armed Forces.

Oyo State Govt Announce 50% Reduction In Salaries Of Political Office Holders


Oyo State Government has announced 50 per cent reduction in the salaries of political office holders, their compensation, approval limits and government’s spending with immediate effect.
Alhaji Olalekan Alli, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), disclosed this at a news conference held in Ibadan on Monday.
Alli said that the decision was taken at the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday, Nov. 4.
He said that it was a measure to shore up the dwindling revenue base of the state. The SSG said that the state had been spending its monthly allocation from the federation account on payment of workers’ salary, which he said, stood at N5.2 billion.
