Edo State Govt suspends traditional ruler of Uromi for one year, to donate his remuneration to orphanges

The Edo State Government has suspended the traditional ruler of Uromi (Ojuromi of Uromi) Zaiki Edenojie II, for one year over failure to apologise to the married woman he assaulted on Sept. 28.

 

A statement dated November 4th and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, said the monarch was suspended for failing to apologise within a stipulated period to Mrs Betty Okoebor, whom he was alleged to have assaulted, taking over the cattle market and stalls built by the operators of the cattle market, banning eight butchers from doing business in Uromi market, among other infractions. 

His remuneration from the 5 per cent monthly FAC allocation to the LG shall also be appropriated and donated to orphanages during the period of suspension. The state government had initially suspended the traditional ruler for for 7 days. Days later, he reconciled with the woman and her her family members. The statement reads:

Suspected killer of corps member arrested in Kaduna State

The suspected murderer of a National Youth Service Corps member, Lawal Kontagora has been arrested in Kaduna State.

Spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Aliyu Usman said on Saturday, that the kingpin was arrested on November 2. The suspect identified as Adamu Jibrin, 22, had made useful statement to the police on the crime. The arrest were carried out by the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB). Two suspects were earlier arrested on Oct. 20. 

"We recovered six loaded cartridges, two knives, two cutlass, a double barrel and one Samsung phone in his room at Unguwar Yero Area in Kaduna," Usman said.

The late NYSC member, Lawal Kontagora, was murdered by some hoodlums in Malali, Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Monday, October 17. See previous post here

According to the police spokesman, the kingpin is still under investigation, but the two other suspects have already been charged to court. Usman re-iterated the police commitment to rid the state of crimes.

"We need the support of everyone to achieve it." he said.

Michael Buble's son Noah has been diagnosed with cancer after an unexpected trip to the doctor took a shocking turn for the worse.

UK Government Suffers Brexit Court Blow

Parliament must vote on whether the UK can start the process of leaving the EU, the High Court has ruled.

This means the government cannot trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty - beginning formal exit negotiations with the EU - on its own.

Theresa May says the referendum - and existing ministerial powers - mean MPs do not need to vote, but campaigners called this unconstitutional.

The government is appealing, with a further hearing expected next month.

The prime minister's spokeswoman said she would be calling President of the EU Commission Jean-Claude Juncker to say she intended to stick to her March 2017 deadline for triggering Article 50.

Amid suggestions that she might try to call an early general election, she added that Mrs May believed "there shouldn't be an election until 2020 and that remains her view".

A statement is to be made to MPs on Monday but the government says it has no intention of letting the judgement "derail Article 50 or the timetable we have set out"

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday admitted that at a point after he was inaugurated as the President in May 2015, he felt like running away.

He said he would have taken the decision because of the myriad of problems his administration inherited from past governments.

Buhari said this while addressing 68 Nigerians who participated in the Senior Executive Course 38 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, and the institute’s management staff at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President said consecutive administrations since 1999 realised what he called unprecedented resources because of the huge price of oil and the number of barrels being produced per day and yet the party in government during the period had nothing to show for it.

He said, “For 16 years and eight consecutive governments of the other party, you know that there was unprecedented revenue realised. Oil production, which can be verified, was 2.1 million barrels per day.

“Ya kids ain’t safe here I don’t want them here,” read one text, later followed by, “So you better pray for your kids.”

The “kids” were 17-month-old Andre Price III and 2-year-old Angel Price. The messages came from a phone belonging to their mother, 21-year-old Christian Clark.

They were sent to the children’s father.

On Wednesday, Clark was charged with killing Andre and attempting to kill Angel, the Associated Press reported.

“She was sending [messages] before the act, at the time of the act and following the act,” Allegheny County Police Superintendent Coleman McDonough told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

It began on Tuesday.

Clark and the children’s father, Andre Price Jr., sometimes lived together in McKeesport, Pa., a city outside Pittsburgh. The couple had been together earlier in the day, but Price had left for work at about 2:30 p.m.

The children were left in Clark’s care.

By 8:25 p.m., though, she wondered why Price hadn’t returned to the house. In a text message, she “accused Price of cheating on her with another woman,” police wrote in an affidavit obtained by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
