Brazilian police: Greek ambassador killed by wife's lover

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Police in Brazil believe that Greece's ambassador to the country was killed by his wife's lover under her orders in a house in the Rio area and have detained three suspects, authorities said Friday.
Ambassador Kyriakos Amiridis went missing on Monday in Nova Iguacu, a city just north of Rio de Janeiro, where the ambassador had been vacationing. The couple lived most of the time in the capital of Brasilia.
On Friday, police investigator Evaristo Pontes Magalhaes said that 29-year-old police officer Sergio Gomes Moreira Filho had confessed to killing Amiridis, alleging self-defense.

The 26 year old had a brief relationship with Tiffany Miles which resulted into this beautiful baby whose name isn't known yet. Police make 50 arrests after raid on Nigerian drug ring in Vienna, Austria

Police in Vienna on Thursday, December 29th, arrested 50 people in connection with a Nigerian drug ring which operated in the Austrian capital. Investigators said they had been on the trail of the gang for the past three years, and that in that time it has netted a profit of over €6 million. 21 kilos of illegal drugs, mainly cocaine and heroin, were seized during the raids.
However, police told a press conference on Friday that the gang would probably cut the drugs with other substances to increase the amount that could be sold on the street to around 100 kilos. The drugs were mainly sold in Vienna by Nigerian dealers. Detective Georg Rabensteiner said that 100 kilos of drugs would "cover" demand in Vienna for a few months.

Gombe United defender Uzama Douglas was shot dead in Benin City by armed men believed to be cultists on Thursday.

The murder of Uzama is the second tragedy to hit the domestic football scene in the last three months after Shooting Stars central defender Izu Joseph was shot dead.

A close friend of the former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles invitee said that the left back was shot in Benin City and declared dead on arrival in hospital.

Islamic Organisations Reject Gender Parity Bill


The Conference of Islamic Organisations, CIO has rejected the gender parity bill currently in the National Assembly describing it as offensive and anti-Islam. CIO said the bill seeking to ensure men and women have equal right to inheritance among other areas is unacceptable.

The bill, sponsored by Senator Biodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti South), seeks to guarantee women equal rights with their male counterparts and it has passed the second reading. The bill also proposes that a widow is entitled to the custody of her children unless it is contrary to the interests and welfare of the children.

Ebonyi: Teacher Dies With Four Children On Christmas Day


The people of Ozizza in Afikpo area of Ebonyi State are still in a state of shock following the “mysterious death” of a teacher and her four children during Christmas. The oldest child was aged six while the last was six months old.

The woman whose name was given as Mrs Faith Ejim- Egwu, was said to have been recently posted to the Unity Secondary School in the area. She was said to be boiling something on the Christmas eve at about 7.30 pm when she took out her last child to bathe her while the other three children were already asleep.

But at a point, she was said to have noticed that the fire on the stove was low and went inside the kitchen of her two- room apartment with the child she was bathing to ascertain the problem.

APC Plotting To Bomb My Plane, Wike Claims


The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has accused the leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State of planning to bomb him while travelling in a plane.

Wike explained that the target was for the state APC to get rid of him in its desperate bid to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state.

Maintaining that no one had the ability to destroy what God had blessed, the governor added that the opposition party in the state was not happy that he was paying workers’ salaries and pensions to retirees despite the economic recession.

Dr. Musa Umar, Director of Narcotics and Controlled Substances of the agency, who represented the acting Director-General of the agency, Mrs Yetunde Oni, led the destruction exercise at Dutsen Babari in Dange/Shuni local government area of the state. Russian president Vladimir Putin has decided not to retaliate against the US for expelling 35 Russian diplomats and imposing sanctions on two of the country's intelligence agencies on Thursday. He made this statement after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the country planned to expel 35 U.S. diplomatic staff from Moscow and close two facilities used by the U.S. embassy in Russia.

72 year old, Idris Ajao, has been arrested by the Osun State police command for being in possession of a female human skull. Ajao who claims to be bricklayer, was arrested today while transporting the human part to Iwo.

When interrogated, he said a herbalist by the name Tajudeen Jawesola, had asked him to exhume skulls from graves in a cemetery in return for N10,000.

Nigeria’s population rises to 193.4 million according to NBS forecast


The population of Nigeria which was at 140,431,790 during the last population census in 2006 has been estimated to currently be at 193,392,517. This is according to the National Population Commission (NPC) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

According to the forecast released by NBS, Kano is the city with the highest population of 13,076,892  people, followed by Lagos with 9,113,605 people. This report contradicts that given by the Lagos State Government and the United Nations which places the population of Lagos at 22 million people.

Kaduna is estimated to be the third most populated state with 8,252,366 people, followed by Oyo state which has a population estimate of 7,840,864. Katsina has a population of 7,831,319 people, having been displaced by Oyo state to the fifth position.

New Boko Haram Video, A Mere Terrorists’ Propaganda- Army


The Nigerian Army said the new Boko Haram video was undergoing a forensic analysis, adding that the troops were still making concerted effort to clear the hiding places of the terrorists.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, who stated this in a statement on Thursday, said the video clip was a mere terrorists’ propaganda, adding that there was no cause for alarm.

He said, “While effort is ongoing to subject the video to further forensic analysis, the Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate that it has captured and occupied the last known stronghold of the terrorist group in the Sambisa Forest.

Suspected Boko Haram members attack troops in Borno


Suspected Boko Haram members this morning launched an attack on a military station at Rann, Borno state. The sect members armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the military station at about 6am and began shooting sporadically.

The troops who are mainly from 3 Battalion and 112 Task Force Battalion, reacted promptly and killed about 15 of the insurgents as well as injured many others. The attack according to military sources lasted for three hours.

2 killed as Igbos, Fulanis clash in Enugu

Two people were killed yesterday during a fight between Fulani herdsmen and some Igbo traders at Gariki market in Enugu state. According to reports, the fight started after a herdsman identified as Ali came to an abattoir at the Market to slaughter a cow. He was charged N500 but paid N400 after he finished slaughtering his cow. The abattoir attendant identified as Ifeanyi Ifeacho asked for the N100 balance but Ali allegedly refused to pay.

Police foil plot to bomb Third Mainland Bridge, arrest suspect


The Nigerian police has arrested a man, Abiodun Amos aka Senti who is one of the leaders of a notorious militant group that operate in Ikorodu and Arepo areas of Lagos and Ogun states for was plotting, with some of his gang members who are currently at large, to bomb the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, a deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, the gang leader, Abiodun Amos, said yesterday, that his group planned to bomb the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos in November because the Federal Government failed to consider its members for amnesty.

Police arrest 61-year-old man who has been raping a 10-year-old girl in a hotel for months in Abia State (photos)


The intelligence policing strategy of the Abia State Police Command has led to the arrest of a 61-year-old man who has been raping a 10-year-old girl in a hotel for months; fake Nestle food manufacturer; armed robbery suspects; burglars and cultists.

Police arrested one Timothy Onyeukwu, 61, caught having unlawful carnal knowledge of one female child of about 10 years old in a hotel. Acting on a tip-off, the operatives of the Central Police Station Aba, swung into action and arrested the man while the little girl was  taken to hospital for medical attention. The suspect confessed to have been sleeping with the little girl for months in the hotel.

Woman gives birth in Walmart bathroom on Christmas Eve, dumps newborn in trash can


A 34-year-old woman gave birth to a healthy baby in a Walmart bathroom on Christmas Eve and abandoned it in a trash can.

According to Inside Edition, New Falls, Louisiana resident Kyandrea Thomas was arrested on Monday, December 26th, for the dastardly act and charged with attempted second degree murder.


Thomas was soliciting patrons outside of the Walmart for tips on behalf of the Salvation Army on Saturday, December 24, when she suddenly went into labor. Rather than request medical assistance, the accused instead made her way to a bathroom stall inside of the department mega-store and gave birth to a healthy baby girl, before placing the her inside of a plastic bag and tossing her into a garbage

 The Nigerian man accused of kidnapping and raping a 12-year-old girl in Mamelodi, South Africa was on Thursday denied bail in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court. 

Augustine Obono, 36, is also facing a charge of human trafficking, which could see him having to pay a R100 million fine or face life in prison if convicted.

The State, led by advocate Andrew Mphaga, opposed his bail application. The investigating officer, Constable Mapule Mahlaba, submitted an affidavit detailing why the accused should be denied bail.

She said the accused was a Nigerian national with no fixed address as the caretaker of the flat he listed his address said he moved into the room on the day of his arrest on December 1. There was no lease agreement.
